Japanese Tourists Exciting Ride: The Power of Japanese Cars and a Surprise Fare!

A Japanese tourist hailed a taxi in downtown Delhi, asking to be taken to Indira Gandhi Airport. Along the way, a car swiftly passed by, and the tourist exclaimed, “Ah, a Toyota – made in Japan! Very fast!” Another car then overtook the taxi, and the tourist remarked, “Ah, a Nissan – made in Japan! Very fast!” Soon after, yet another car passed them, and the tourist said, “Ah, a Mitsubishi – made in Japan! Very fast!” The taxi driver, who was 100% Indian, grew a bit annoyed as Japanese cars kept overtaking. Finally, as they approached the airport, another car zoomed past the taxi, and the tourist exclaimed, “Ah, […] The post Japanese Tourist’s Exciting Ride: The Power of Japanese Cars and a Surprise Fare! appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Antarctica: Alone at the Edge of the World

What does isolation at Antarctica’s poles feel like? One day, a video cassette of the Polish version of “Big Brother” arrived at the Antarctic research station. The narrator’s concerned voice explained, “The participants have been confined together for these 90 days.” We exchanged looks. It was the 281st day at the Arctowski base. The above memory is a story I heard from a friend, but I hope it helps you understand what isolation at the poles truly means. Personally, I’ve conducted four expeditions at the Polish Henryk Arctowski Antarctic Station, two of which were winter overs (year-round observations). Usually, a ship departs from Gdynia Harbor in October and, after a […] The post Antarctica: Alone at the Edge of the World appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Living in the Middle: Embracing Isolation and Thriving in Arctic Adventure

Living in the Middle: Living somewhere in the middle, what’s it like? I live somewhere in the middle. Going a step further, I’d say at one point, my family was one of the most isolated families in North America, perhaps even one of the most isolated in the world. Building an igloo in the spring of 1980 (though that was my brother, not me, for clarification). Would you believe it? Keep reading. Here’s a map of the United States taken directly from Google Earth. As you can see, it’s quite a vast area. Now, some of you may not be aware, but just north of the United States, there’s another […] The post Living in the Middle: Embracing Isolation and Thriving in Arctic Adventure appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Which country boasts the most delicious mangoes? Look no further than India. India and mangoes are synonymous. The cultivation of mangoes in India dates back over 4,000 years, making it the birthplace of these luscious fruits. Even today, India proudly holds the title for the highest mango production in the world. Let’s embark on a journey through India, exploring the world of mangoes. Here’s a list of mango varieties harvested in each state of India. Quite an impressive array of flavors, isn’t it? Empowering Off the Grid Living: Embracing Sustainable Lifestyle and Natural Harmony

The allure of living off the grid, you ask? In essence, I lead a life devoid of monetary transactions. I secure sustenance and shelter by dedicating five hours of labor, five days a week, and I do so without spending a dime. Most of our food is grown on-site, and whatever is not cultivated is procured through purchases, primarily fruits, beans, and occasionally bread. While my host covers the cost of groceries, last week’s shopping list only amounted to $3, consisting of lentils, canned tomatoes, and oregano. Furthermore, we cut firewood for heating the home, warming water, and cooking, thereby bypassing expenses like gas and the like. We reside in […] The post Empowering Off the Grid Living: Embracing Sustainable Lifestyle and Natural Harmony appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Empowering Amish Traditions: Embracing a Resilient Lifestyle of Community and Ingenuity

The Amish lead a lifestyle that may seem stark to many, yet what they gain surpasses what they relinquish by far. Electricity, cars, indoor phones, computers, and average American attire are all forbidden. However, it’s crucial to note that not all Amish communities are identical. Their primary language is Pennsylvania German, pronounced as “Ich” (with a long “i” for Dich), hence sometimes referred to as Dutch despite not being so. Various German dialects exist across regions, making the language barrier perhaps more challenging to adapt to than off-grid living itself. Clothing must adhere to specified patterns and materials, often handmade. Women wear distinctive hats, intricate and demanding in ironing, a […] The post Empowering Amish Traditions: Embracing a Resilient Lifestyle of Community and Ingenuity appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Skurbuchan Gonpa: Discovering Serenity Amidst Majestic Landscapes

I found myself headed towards Skurbuchan Gonpa. The rickety bus departed from Leh town and followed the Leh-Srinagar Highway relentlessly. At a junction along the way, the highway either crossed a bridge towards Lamayuru or continued along the Indus River towards Dah Hanu. Without crossing the bridge, the bus proceeded towards Dah Hanu, passing through Skurbuchan Gonpa along the way. Gradually descending in altitude while glimpsing the Indus River on the left, every green-covered stretch of land along the Indus River was a village. From Dongkar to Skurbuchan, Achinatan, Sanjak, Dah Hanu, to Garkun, this area would soon be adorned with trees bearing juicy, orange fruits in about a month […] The post Skurbuchan Gonpa: Discovering Serenity Amidst Majestic Landscapes appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Unstoppable Adventure: Conquering the Appalachian Trails Ultra Challenge

Running for an hour continuously is truly challenging, don’t you think? The Appalachian Trail stands as the world’s longest hiking trail, spanning a staggering 3,523 kilometers. This trail traverses the Appalachian Mountains from Georgia to Maine, navigating through rugged terrains from Springer Mountain in Chattahoochee National Forest to Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park. If the trail were flat, covering the 3,523 kilometers would be the ultimate test of endurance. Spanning 14 states, the Appalachian Trail cuts through alpine regions and rocky terrains, presenting a formidable challenge. With over 150 kilometers of elevation gain, those who embark on this trail typically dedicate five to seven months to complete it. Empowering Minimalism: Embracing Self-Sufficiency and Positive Change

Minimalism has been my way of life, involving quitting my job with less than $3000 in my bank account, embarking on the “challenge of reducing possessions to fewer than 100 items,” turning off my cellphone, booking a one-way ticket to Europe, and living self-sufficiently in the mountains of Spain, exchanging necessities for volunteer work.   What did it require? Unraveling much of what I had been taught about pursuing the American Dream. When I first set foot in Spain in February 2015, I volunteered for five hours a day at an animal shelter in exchange for three meals a day. And a free room with wifi. My daily routine included: […] The post Empowering Minimalism: Embracing Self-Sufficiency and Positive Change appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Discover the Ultimate Pacific Crest Trail Adventure: Hiking Prep Gear and Positive Trail Experiences

The Pacific Crest Trail demands a meticulous preparation. How much readiness is truly necessary? Junichiro Honjo, residing in India for eight minutes, shares insights drawn from hiking the PCT with a boyfriend turned husband in 2010. I would divide preparation into four domains: self (mental/physical), food, gear, and other essentials. Self (Mental+Physical): As others have noted, minimal walking prep is crucial to acquire trail legs in the initial weeks. We adjusted our packs repeatedly to find the optimum comfort and weight distribution. Practice walking 5-12 miles in Brooklyn wearing the pack. Mountain Education’s Winter Skills Course surprised me with the need for an ice axe, enhancing directional/navigation skills crucial amidst […] The post Discover the Ultimate Pacific Crest Trail Adventure: Hiking Prep, Gear, and Positive Trail Experiences appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Ultimate Guide to Conquering the Pacific Crest Trail: Power through Challenges and Discover Adventure

To finish that whole Pacific Crest Trail by walking through it, you gotta do ’bout 15 miles every day. At that speed, it’ll take ’bout 6 months. If you’re headin’ NOBO (northbound), brace yourself ’cause Washington’s got some wild weather waitin’ for ya. But most folks up their daily miles as they go along. I started with 10 miles a day and pitched camp by 3:00 pm. Towards the end, I was on the trail for 12-14 hours coverin’ over 30 miles – pretty much what most folks do. Some hikers do over 40 miles, some do less. Adorable Journey: Rescuing and Nurturing a Newborn Mouse Through Challenges

A tale of a Twitter user who rescued a newborn mouse A Twitter user from the Russian-speaking community living in Germany, with the nickname @virilvi, stumbled upon a half-alive newborn mouse on the road in early October. She initially thought it was a baby wild mouse, but when she saw it moving, she decided to invite this little one into her home. The universe has a sense of humor, doesn’t it? Because, as you can imagine, what was missing to make me completely happy was, indeed, a mouse! Reincarnation: Unlocking Lifes Meaning in a Divine Encounter

Reincarnation:What is the most terrifying theory known to humankind? This is a beautifully crafted, fear-inducing narrative that prompts deep reflection. It is, by far, the most unique interpretation of the cosmos and human existence that I have encountered. Egg: You met your demise on the way home. It was a fatal car accident. While nothing stood out as particularly noteworthy, its consequences were dire. You left behind a wife and two children. The passing was painless. Despite the paramedics’ best efforts, it was futile. Your body lay shattered, and believe me, you were in a better state than when alive. And so, our paths crossed. “What… what happened?” you inquired. Unveiling the Majesty of Srinagar Tourism: Exploring Colonial Charms and Serene Houseboat Escapes

In the bygone era when India was still a colony of the British Empire, Srinagar resounded with the names of British aristocrats seeking respite, and even today, among the Kashmiris, it is often referred to as the paradise within India. Even after India gained independence from Britain in 1947, until the 1980s, tourists from various countries frequented this summer retreat, earning it the title of “Switzerland of the East.” However, as the separatist movement in Kashmir intensified in the 1990s, accompanied by incursions from pro-independence factions from Pakistan, the security situation in Srinagar deteriorated. Consequently, the influx of foreign tourists naturally dwindled. This state of affairs persisted until the early […] The post Unveiling the Majesty of Srinagar Tourism: Exploring Colonial Charms and Serene Houseboat Escapes appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Pets: Empowering Owners to Provide Comfort in Final Moments

Pets also have their final wishes. Veterinarians who euthanize elderly or sick animals are aware of this. Twitter user Jesse Dietrich asked a veterinarian, “What’s the hardest part of your job?” The vet replied, “The hardest part is seeing elderly or sick animals searching for their owners before being euthanized.” In fact, 90% of owners don’t want to be in the same room as their dying pets. People avoid being present when their pets pass away. However, they don’t realize that pets truly need them in their last moments. Exploring the Majestic Chantan Plateau: Embracing Nomadic Culture and Inspiring Resilience

In the village of Puga on the Chantan Plateau, which rises above 4,000 meters, there lies a small village known as Puga Village. The oxygen in this village is about half that of the ground level. The vast plateau of Central Asia stretches endlessly, the sky is infinitely clear, and the village seems infinitely close to heaven. Here, amidst numerous sheep and goats, there exists a nomadic ethnic group tending to a large subspecies of cattle called yaks, with long fur and immense bodies, wandering the Chantan Plateau. Bicycles and Economy: The CEOs Surprising Revelation on the Positive Impact of Healthy Lifestyles

“What could be the cruel truth of life that must be told? Bicycles are the ultimate evil.” The CEO of Euro Exim Bank Limited shocked economists with these words: “Bicycles are a scourge on a nation’s economy. People who ride bicycles don’t buy cars or take loans to buy bicycles. They don’t pay insurance. They don’t buy fuel, nor do they pay for maintenance or necessary repairs. They don’t use paid parking lots. They don’t cause major accidents. Multi-lane roads are unnecessary. They don’t gain weight. Empowering Relationships: Navigating Lifes Challenges with Positive Connections and Prayers

Relationships: Regrettably, I’ve come to realize this far too late. I deeply regret not noticing this sooner and wish I had. 1. People come and go In the past, there were times when I prioritized friends over family. I believed in trusting friends and cherishing friendship, but that was a grave misconception. Only family remains steadfastly loyal, assuming one is fortunate and their family remains intact. Therefore, I desire to behave normally and maintain a moderate distance. 2. Others truly don’t care about you I used to overthink how people perceived me, but in reality, they didn’t care much. Everyone is self-centered and self-absorbed. It’s natural. Psychology Unveiled: Unlocking Mysteries and Discovering Your True Self

Who are you, really? In the realm of psychology, there exists a test that is as simple as it is chilling. You must do it for yourself, and only you will know the results. All you need is a little courage, some paper, a pen, and thirty minutes of quiet. It’s called the “20 Questions,” and it goes like this. First, write at the top of the paper, “Who am I?” and then write your answer. Next, ask the second question, “Who am I?” and write another answer. Then move to the third “Who am I?” and its response. Repeat this process twenty times. The only rule is that each […] The post Psychology Unveiled: Unlocking Mysteries and Discovering Your True Self appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

Dreams Unleashed: Empowering Transformations from Late Starts to Success

Do you think it’s too late to give up on something? I started studying English at the age of 44. At 49, I founded a pantomime group. I joined a gym for the first time at 50. At 57, I performed dance on stage and created a unique art called “living sculpture.” After turning 70, I began seriously training my body. At 79, I received my first award. Now at 80, I still have projects. What I’m fighting for are my DREAMS. Consider carefully, as thinking it’s too late might just be an excuse to do nothing, avoid taking responsibility for your life, and maintain the same level of self. Powerful Amphorae: Efficient Design for Liquid Transport with Minimal Damage

Why Did Ancient Romans Craft Amphorae with Pointed Bottoms for Liquid Transport? It was a grand and highly efficient design. Amphorae were primarily used for transporting liquids. Being pottery, they were prone to damage and cracking if handled roughly. Bottles with flat bottoms have a rim where the bottom meets the wall. This rim is a weak point that easily breaks upon impact. Many bottles were shattered before carriers noticed. However, bottles with narrow, thick, and sturdy bottoms proved to be less prone to damage. The long double handles allowed carriers to easily pass the load from hand to hand when loading onto ships. They also served as attachment points […] The post Powerful Amphorae: Efficient Design for Liquid Transport with Minimal Damage appeared first on LIFE on the PLANET LADAKH.

This astonishing place in Sri Lanka is unparalleled globally, often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. Surely, you must be wondering what makes this place so extraordinary. Well, it is, in fact, a colossal monolithic rock standing approximately 660 feet tall, with its summit flattened as if cleaved by a giant knife. Reclaim Lost Splendor: Nostalgic Reflections

Reclaim the Economy Class photograph from a Pan Am flight in 1960. If there’s anything to reclaim, it’s this. It harks back to the late 1960s, when Pan Am treated Economy Class passengers like this. In seats akin to a lounge, it seemed advisable not to sit next to strangers. There always seemed to be vacant seats. And though it’s not clear, these passengers likely enjoyed delicious food as well. Of course, back then, air travel was more expensive, and not everyone could afford it. It was something special. Sakha Republics Resilience: Unveiling the Positive Impact of Climate Change Amid Thawing Challenges

Photo by Nikolai Kozakov Thin Ice The Changing Climate of Sakha Republic “A letter arrived from a friend in Yakutsk, saying it’s very warm, only minus 5 degrees. No snow has fallen,” it read. I asked other Yakut friends if they remember such warmth at the end of October. They all answered in unison, “No.” Last year at this time, it was minus 20 degrees. All regions, including Yakutsk, have become warmer. The same is true even in the inland areas covered with permafrost. The onset of the first cold was normal. Thoreaus Whispers of Simplicity: Reflecting on Living Off the Grid

Thoreau’s Simple Life in 1845: Above Image. “And pray what more can a reasonable man desire, in peaceful times, in ordinary noons, than a sufficient number of ears of green-sweet corn boiled, with the addition of salt.” – Henry David Thoreau Thoreau reminisces about his solitary life for two years at Walden Pond in Massachusetts in his memoir “Walden.” He lived in a cabin he built himself, relying on the surrounding land and nature for sustenance.
